Updates

House Update:

Is there any process more convoluted than buying a home? Thankfully, we have some good news! The inspectors came back with reasonable bids! We decided to go ahead and comply with he requests of the underwriter and we're getting the repairs done and sticking with this house. Rob is currently at an all-day mortgage class (thankful its him & not me!).  It's a relief to know that we probably won't have to start over from square one with a different house - we really like this one! :)

It's going to take some time for everything to be finalized and the repairs to be done, so we've asked for an extension on our closing date. It will still be a few weeks to a month before we are moved in. We've already started packing and the new resident managers (our friends the Stivers) are ready to move in. We're ready to hand over responsibility now that we've geared up for it. This is also a good time to switch positions because we have a new batch of residents coming in who will have the Stivers for most of their stay. We will be out of town/on vacation for much of September, so we've decided to go ahead and clear out of our Hillcrest apartment. Hillcrest is graciously allowing us to store the majority of our belongings in an empty apartment, and our friends the Youngs are VERY graciously letting us stay with them at their home in Independence until our place is ready.

So, we'll be in transition a little bit longer but then we'll be (Lord willing) settling in! We plan to move at the end of this coming week and then we'll be going camping over labor day weekend. When we get back, you can reach us on our "home" number as it's connected to our computer (we use Skype), but we will probably be letting the phone go to voicemail and calling you back so that we don't have to leave our computer on/volume up. You are welcome to call our cell phone if it is urgent, and if you don't have that number and would like it, just shoot me an email. :)

We'll forward our mail eventually, but we'll be fine getting our mail at this address for a while. We'll let you know when we're ready to give out our new addy - just want to make sure its a done deal first.

Other Family News

We've all come down with a nasty cold! It's Cora's first illness and she's a trooper! It's been runny noses, low-grade fevers, and watery eyes for the kiddos, and sore throats and headaches for the parents. The boys really have it worse than us girls - Rob took the day off yesterday. The kids have a gunky cough today and no runny nose, so I'm pretty sure we're just about through - they are just clearing the mucous from their lungs. I apologize to anyone who has had to deal with me in the last few days - it's been a long time (Praise God!) since I've gotten a bug that hit me this hard. Feeling much better today - just a tiny headache.

Aidan News

Our big boy is so excited to be moving to a new house! He's loved helping tape up boxes and ask lots of questions about where we're going. He won't let me touch his toys yet though! lol! I boxed up 90% of his books while he was napping yesterday and he was pretty emotional about it.

We're starting to work on word recognition and he often points to a word he sees and asks what it says. He understands the concept well and can recognize his name. Speaking of names... he's finally started saying them!! Until now, he only said the "names" of a few special people like Kim, Lu Ann, and April (who he calls "A"). He wouldn't even try to repeat a name if you asked him to - a quirk, but we figured he'd grow out of it. All of a sudden he's all about saying names - even if they are two or more syllables! It started with his friend Andrew and now he's said Audrey, Aubrey, Eli, Lily, Jack, Nathan, Thomas, Trey, and Cora! We still can't get him to say Aidan though! lol!

We're going to start a curriculum with him when we move into the Youngs. They homeschool and we figure it will be a good way for him to adjust to having to be focused for their sakes. We'd planned to start it when he turns 3, but we'll just scale it back if we have to. My favorite part of it is that the lessons are structured around an emphasis of "serving" others. I've been trying to instill that idea to make sharing and being gentle (esp. w/Cora) easier.

And speaking of character training... Aidan wet the bed this morning (unusual - but probably b/c we let him have some water when he woke up coughing in the night)  and when I noticed I ask rhetorically - "did you pee in the bed?" His response was a straight-faced lie!! "No, I spilled Daddy's cup of water on my pants!" Um... wow! We don't discipline for potty accidents, so his motivation for lying was?? Embarrassment? Oh, it begins! :)

Cora News

Not long after I wrote her 5 month update, those teeth broke through! She now has 2 teeth on bottom and I'm not sure if the current drooling is due to her cold or if she's going to surprise us with more teeth!! She's also sitting up on her own now - she rarely topples, but I generally keep a pillow behind her just in case.

She's started to make consonant sounds! Mostly "da da" and "th" so far. She's so much fun to interact with. She loves being tickled, loves when Aidan pays attention to her, and loves squealing as high and loud as she can!

And she's trying to get around, semi-successfully! She rolled and scooted from sitting up in the boppy to where she is in this photo.

That's all I have time for now, but more soon!
